Sailing is Freedom
Our sailing program is accessible to all
Today, the Adaptive Sailing Association of BC (ASABC) operates eight specially designed Martin 16 sailboats and hosts between 800 and 1,000 sailing experiences from Jericho Sailing Centre. It’s a program that gets fully booked each year; and yet we are at capacity to meet the growing demand.
A new dock will increase accessibility for sailors with disabilities
Today, the Adaptive Sailing Association of BC (ASABC) operates eight specially designed Martin 16 sailboats and hosts between 800 and 1,000 sailing experiences from Jericho Sailing Centre. It’s a program that gets fully booked each year; and yet we are at capacity to meet the growing demand.
How we currently launch not only causes wear and tear on boats and trailers, we are also limited by the tide, which means sometimes we cannot sail. With the strength of our partners and supporters we have the opportunity to address this challenge.
In partnership with the City of Vancouver, Vancouver Park Board and Jericho Sailing Centre, we are embarking on a joint initiative to renew the aging Jericho pier and build a new, accessible floating dock. This means the ASABC will be able to provide even more people with physical disabilities the opportunity to experience the freedom and independence that comes with sailing.
Our vision is to empower and inspire people with disabilities to re-imagine what is possible through the sailing experience. The renewed Jericho pier and accessible floating dock will make that vision a reality for many more people.
