Join Us in Celebrating You!

National Volunteer Week is coming up from April 27 to May 3, and we want to celebrate the amazing impact our volunteers make.

Your dedication, energy, and compassion are what keep ASABC moving — and we’re so grateful to have you as part of our sailing crew.

We’re hosting a Virtual Volunteer Celebration on Wednesday, May 1, at 4:30 PM, and we hope you can join us! We’ll recognize our Volunteer of the Year Award recipients and celebrate this year’s theme: “Volunteers Make Waves!”

🗓 Save the Date: May 1 at 4:30 PM

We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

🌟 Volunteer Spotlights

Meet a Few of Our Amazing Crew Members!

Here’s a peek at just a couple of the incredible people who make our programs possible:

Alex Behar

Alex joined ASABC as a land volunteer in summer 2023, drawn by a growing love for sailing and a desire to give back. In just a few weeks, he became an essential part of the team — helping with equipment, welcoming clients, and adapting to new challenges with care and optimism. His favourite part? The sense of community and connection that welcomed him right away. Alex’s kindness and commitment continue to inspire others.

He encourages anyone curious about volunteering to “just try one shift.” 👉 Read Alex’s full story here.

Sean Compston

Sean has been a dedicated sailing companion with ASABC for five years, inspired by his brother’s spinal cord injury and their shared love of the water. What began as a search for adaptive activities for his brother became a deeply personal journey of healing and connection.

From crewing boats to sharing peaceful sails with clients like Lucy and her family, Sean brings compassion, humour, and a powerful sense of purpose to every session.

He says, “We’re not defined by our limitations; we’re just two people enjoying a sail.”👉 Read Sean’s full story here.
